Mumbai is located on India's central-western coast along the Arabian Sea. The city developed for 150 years in isolation from its hinterland and still seems to belong in a different world.. It has vital
streetlife, India's best nightlife, and many bazaars to explore. Mumbai
is alone responsible for half of India's foreign trade. The city of Bombay originally consisted of seven islands, which have since been joined together by a series of reclamations. The principal part of the city is concentrated at the southern claw-shaped end of the island. The southernmost peninsula is known as Colaba and it has a decent range of hotels and restaurants and two of the city's best landmarks, the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Hotel. Other place of interest include; Elephanta Caves, Jehangir art gallery, Prince of Wales museum, Rajabai clock tower, Mumbai high court building, Flora fountain, Asiatic library, Nehru science center/ Planetarium , Nariman point, Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Victoria Terminus station), The National Center for Performing Arts, Hanging Gardens, Haji Ali Mausoleum, Mount Mary Church(Bandra), Mahalaxmi Temple, SiddhiVinayak Temple, ISKCON Temple, Marine Drive('Queen's Necklace'), Sanjay Gandhi National Park & the Kanhari caves. |

Directly north of Colaba is the area known as the Fort, since this is where the old British fort once stood. Further west is Marine Drive, which sweeps around Back Bay, connecting the high-rise modern business center with Chowpatty Beach. To the north are the suburbs of Greater Mumbai. Here you'll find the two airports, Sahar International and the domestic Santa Cruz. This is where Bandra lies, oft referred to a the 'Queen of the Suburbs'. Bandra is the most 'happening' place to be in Mumbai, whether it is fashion, shopping, or taking in the aura of a Mumbai lifestyle & night life. | |
